Evelyn sat still as her brown eyes stared at nothing in particular. The sun had long since settled over the now silent city below the large windows covering the eastern wall. It was the time of the hunters - the predators or whatever other names the vampire race had been given during the past sixty years. Still, the vampires had made an effort to make sure the human race hadn't gone extinct and somehow, that had been completely and utterly lost on the new generation of humans running around.
She could hear the door opening behind her, but she didn't turn. Instead, the brunette remained perfectly still - like a statuette. She didn't need to breathe - she hadn't needed that for over two hundred years. At first, it had felt like something was missing. Now she saw it more as a gift.
"Don't hover," she said, her voice even. "People who hover in doorways are coming from nowhere and are heading nowhere." She lifted the glass to her lips and took a sip from the still warm red liquid. "What can I do for you, Ellen? I'm fairly sure I didn't request your company." At last, Evelyn turned around, swirling her chair so that she could face the young human standing before her.
