PLAY BY: Katheryn Winnick
♦ THE BASICS ♦
AGE: 126, turned at 28
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Bisexual probably
POSITION: Inner City Inquisitor
RACE: Vampire♦ THE CHARACTER ♦
HEIGHT: 6'
HAIR COLOR: Blonde
EYE COLOR: Blue
MISC: Shannon usually comes off as very intimidating, considering she stands about a head taller than most girls. It doesn’t help that she has an intense case of resting bitch face. She is not very easy to forget, which is probably a good thing for her job. Probably.
PERSONALITY: Shannon is pretty much a well tamed gangrel. Aggressive and prone to biting, she can snap at the smallest infractions and it usually doesn’t end well. Although she’s been trying to work on it, it’s only small improvements at a time. When she isn’t tearing into someone, she more or less stays in a constant state of neutrality with those who don’t know her. She isn’t emotionless, but rather doesn’t care to put much effort into showing it to new people. Why waste her time with people she’d only have to interact with once or twice?
With the scant friends she does have, she puts more energy into showing more emotions than bored and angry. By no means is she a particularly “happy” person, but she can smile despite popular belief. It almost strictly happens with her companions, who have proven themselves to be people worth the time and effort for her to actually attempt forming a connection with. Doing so is never easy, but somehow it has happened more than once.
SECRET(S): Surprisingly, none.♦ THE HISTORY ♦”Do you understand what I’m offering?”
“…”
“Shannon?”
“I do Tommy, it’s just…”
“…It’s just what? Come on, kid. You can talk to me.”
“I’m not a kid anymore.”
“Shan, I’ve got at least a hundred years on you. You’re practically a baby to me.”
“…”
“…That still weird to think about?”
“Uh, you think?”
“Heh, sorry.
“…”
“…Look, Shan. If it freaks you out too much, just tell me. I can understand if you’d-“
“If I’d what?”
“If you’re…well, scared of me.”
“…Scared of you?”
“…Well yeah I-“
“You really think I’m scared of you? All because I found out you’re a vampire?”
“…Well with that kind of tone-“
“Tommy you’re basically the one good thing that’s ever happened in my life. You’ve met my parents.”
“…Ok so maybe you have a point.”
“So no, I’m not afraid of you. It’s just…confusing.”
“Well it is a lot to take in.”
“No not that you idiot. I mean the fact you’d pick me.”
“…Wait what?”
“Out of everyone you’ve met- and I’m sure you’ve met a lot if you’re really as old as you say- why pick me to turn?”
“…”
“I’m not a great person, Tommy. Not even a good one, if I’m being honest.”
“You’re being too harsh on yourself.”
“You’re being stupid. I was a mess before we met and you set me straight. I’d probably be dead now if you hadn’t shown up.”
“…”
“…”
“…Look, Shan, I don’t go around offering this kind of deal to anyone. Turning into a vampire comes with a lot of things. Not just pros. There are cons too. Hell, some don’t even survive the change to find out about those cons. It’s too much on their body and they die.”
“…”
“What I’m saying is: vampirism isn't for everyone. Otherwise there would be a hell of a lot more of us and humans would be the minority. Only a few can survive the change, and even fewer can maintain some shred of humanity once they go through it.”
“What, you saying not all vampires are the sparkling wonders we read about in modern literature?”
“Ha ha, very funny smart ass. But I’m being serious. Not all of them are like me. Not all of them actually stay…’human.’ What people fail to write about in books is that vampires aren’t like magical ‘princes’ or ‘princesses. One kiss isn’t going to magically cure our thirst for blood, and everything’s suddenly hunky-dory. Vampirism is like handling a beast that’s constantly out for prey. One slip of the chain, and suddenly you’ve got a pile of bloody bodies in your wake.”
“…Then why offer this to me?”
“Because I think you can handle it. I think you can change and keep that control. I could be wrong, but I don’t think I am.”
“You know who you’re talking to, right? I’m not exactly the happiest person on the planet.”
“We’ll work on your control.”
“Just like that?”
“Just like that.”
“…”
“I wouldn’t have said anything if I didn’t believe you had a chance.”
“…”
“…”
“…Ok. I…I’ll do it.”
“You sure? Once we do this there’s no going back.”
“I know. But what else does life have to offer me anyways?”
“Shan-“
“Don’t you Shan me, Tommy. I’ve made my decision. Besides…if I had to be stuck with anyone for the rest of my life, it might as well be you.
“…Heh, alright.”
“Let’s get this over with.”
Let’s give a little more.
Shannon Marks is the only daughter (as far as she knows) out of a very dysfunctional family. While in the womb, her mother was highly addicted to drugs and continued using even while she was carrying. After she was born and treated, Shannon was eventually put through foster care into a number of different homes. In her early years, she skipped from house to house as her violent temper was often too much for parents to deal with. The last house she was taken into belonged to the Marks. While the home itself was like any other house, there was one key difference. Tommy Suarez. A janitor in the high school she was pushed into attending, he recognized the self-destructive path she was going down and saved her from it. Despite her difficulty in making or maintaining friendships, Tommy became Shannon’s closest friend and a huge pillar of support in her life. With him, she learned how to somewhat control her temper and get her life back on track. By the time high school was over, she had a relatively good grasp on her life. While she still wasn’t exactly stable, she wasn’t as close to falling apart as she had been. Fights became less frequent and less violent whenever she got in them. When she grew old enough, she moved out to stay in the same apartment as Tommy. Shannon never attended university, seeing no real point in it as she got a steady job working as a bartender. A few years passed before Tommy revealed that he was in fact a vampire, and in turn offered to turn her into one as well. Ultimately Shannon accepted, and Tommy trained her to the best of his abilities in order to control her bloodlust. Afterwards, they traveled, with Tommy very rarely picking another candidate to turn when he thought they were worth it and would survive. From what Shannon knows, her “family” of turned siblings is extremely small since her sire hardly chooses anyone without a few years of observation. They are the closest friends she has, and she is exceptionally protective of every one of them.
When the plague hit, Shannon and Tommy were in the area. They helped herd some humans into what is now Old Chicago for their own protection against the fatal disease. After that was settled and the walls built up, Shannon joined the Inquisition mainly to protect her small “family” from humans and vampires alike. It’s a good output for her still problematic anger, but she is still working on controlling it further.♦ THE PLAYER ♦
