Years ago, the Salem Witch Trials drove the legitimate witches out of Salem. They gathered their power, and created their own spirit world in Salem, which has only grown over the years. It was the perfect place for the Ancestral Spirits of New Orleans to flee to, and in their vengeance, twist the advanced Witch Hunters who lived in Salem, turning them towards New Orleans with the intent of eliminating the Original Vampires.
Meanwhile, three years since Davina Claire's death, Kol and Freya Mikaelson have ventured to Salem, hearing reports of a woman who sounds suspiciously like Davina. The Originals have no idea that they are being played by the Ancestors, or of the danger that awaits them.
