The Hunter Is Prey [Ezra]

Christina chose to live in the outer city. It was easier to sneak outside the wall than it would have been if she had chosen to become a vampire's little pet. Sometimes she would hunt outside the wall, but a lot of the time she went out there to grab wood to make new arrows. All she needed was the tip sharp enough to pierce the animal and then she would be able to eat the meat and create clothes from her catch. As of right now she didn't need new clothing, just food. The scorch was open area, if she wanted to catch animals though she would have to stray away from the wall, which is exactly what she ended up doing.

She knew it was a dangerous move, she just didn't care. Vampires were dangerous no matter where you were standing, it didn't matter if you were in the city or outside of it so she might as well make her skill of hunting useful and catch some prey while she was out here. Christina was observant of her surroundings, so far she hadn't noticed anybody, which was good because the last thing she wanted was to be a blood bank for those vampires. She slowed down as she neared the woods, at first thinking of going inside but then opted to turn away back towards the ruins.

Out here she was able to see who might be nearby her, in the woods the trees were in the way so it would be harder to notice somebody else nearby. Christina withdrew her bow and an arrow as she made her way into an abandoned house, peeking inside before slowly walking in. It wouldn't harm a vampire but it would still surprise them that she had the nerve to shoot at them. She held the bow and arrow firmly as she turned around the corner of the house, searching to see if there were any animals nearby. There were stairs, she took them up as she looked back and forward, listening for any possible sounds.

Now, Ezra was hardly the kind of person who found himself at the outskirts of the city without a single goal at mind. Today, that goal was somewhat obscured, but a goal nonetheless. The night before, his sister and him had run into this petty little human who had called his sister less than favorable names and of course, Ezra couldn't let such disrespect slip away. Besides, finding the guy and seeing the shear terror in his eyes when he realized what kind of mistake he'd made...

Well, it sure was worth joining the filth of the ruins.

Sitting on a rock, wiping his hands off on a handkerchief, Ezra noticed movement at the corner of his eyes. Turning his head, he paused, smelling the air for gangrels, but there was none. Instead, he could sense the faint smell of fur and sweat; likely another human.

The girl disappeared into a building and well, although Ezra had already filled his cup of blood, he couldn't very well let such a thing pass by without taking a look. What kind of stupid human wandered out here on their own anyways?

Stepping into the house, Ezra stood in the doorway, listening for any sound; There, footsteps on the upper floor. Leaning against the doorway, Ezra smirked. "You won't find anything in here, darlin'," he called out. "Nothing but tattered clothes and dust anyways," he frowned slightly, his French accent still present, though faint. He wondered if people even knew there was such a thing as French language anymore. It wasn't as if the higher up vampires looked kindly on unregistered humans learning anything about the past.

Christina hadn't heard him walk in, but she had heard him speaking. Either he is just as much as a dare devil as me or he isn't human... She knew he was waiting for her to say something but since he knew there weren't any animals in here she felt a great need to find another exit out. She wandered into the room to peek to see the window ledge. I'll be able to sneak away here if he is a human, if he is a vampire I'll just make things easier for him to catch me. That thing isn't going to be an easy landing if I chose to go that route. She glanced over once more before moving back away from the window and making her way slowly towards the stairs. She held her bow, ready to fire at the foolish man for crossing paths with her.

She took her time walking, in attempt to be as quiet as possible. Coming to a corner before seeing the path towards the front door she stopped to take a breath, calming herself would be important if she wanted to be able to act with a clear head. She stood straight as she rounded the corner, seeing him nearby it. "Perhaps I wasn't looking for anything." She answered him back, not wishing him to know what exactly she could have been looking for. Is he human? I can't tell from here.... She did know firing towards his heart would tell her or not since vampires were fast. The risk of pissing it off, weighing her desire to get out. "Are you following me?" Maybe while he came up with an answer she would be able to determined if he was a vampire or human.

I personality think he is to handsome to be a human.... I doubt the vampires would treat the humans so highly, but if there is one thing I know, he wouldn't have such nice clothing on if he was an unregistered, which leaves the possible question. What is my next move if he is a vampire? She decided firing at him would be a bad move, but she didn't lower her bow. Only a vampire would be courageous with such a thing pointed straight towards him.

He could hear her moving around, despite her footsteps being lighter than before. He had to focus on the spot she was at, but in such an old, beaten down building making out any sounds that didn't belong there wasn't exactly hard to do. Yet, Ezra didn't move. He remained perfectly still, his usual smirk plastered upon his lips. "If you weren't looking for anything, you wouldn't be here," he replied simply with a faint shrug. After all, why would someone bother escaping the walls for no reason at all? That was foolishness, regardless of how you looked at it. "Yes, because I don't have anything better to do with my life than following random girls around," he added with a roll of his eyes.

Finally, the young girl emerged from her hiding spot. She was cute, for a human. She looked innocent, though the bow in her hands would say that she wasn't. She didn't hold it like it was her first time. She'd likely used the bow on more than one occasion - and odds were, if she decided to fire, she wouldn't miss. Well, theoretically, anyways.

And yet, Ezra remained perfectly still. His arms crossed neatly over his chest with one shoulder leaning against the frame; the smirk still present, almost gleaming in the low light.

Christina listened to his answer, of course it was foolish for her to be out here but that didn't mean that she cared to tell him that he was right. "I don't believe you, I'm sure you take pleasure in following random girls around." She stated plainly, keeping the bow held up in the air. She couldn't tell if he was brave or flat out stupid, it didn't appear as if he was fearful of the arrow that could hit him at any second. "My reason for sneaking out is none of your business." She added, clearly not interested in telling him her reasons for coming out here. Your business however should be shared since I know you weren't in here when I got here. If she didn't know any better, he had picked that spot as if he knew she would likely go for it to get out.

If he is a vampire, I need to figure out another way out of here. I'll be forced to shoot towards him to allow distance between us. He is harmless as long as he stays over there. "Tell me, why aren't you bothered that I'm aiming my arrow at you." She answered finally, I really hope he isn't a vampire, a human I can get away from, the chances of getting away from a vampire though. It's not looking so good. She forced her thoughts away, knowing if he was a vampire she would have to pay close attention to him. A thought crossed her mind, there would be no fooling a vampire, but that didn't mean she couldn't allow a human to believe such a thing.

"Are you planning on blocking my way out the whole time we are here?" She asked finally, lowering her bow and arrow. She would need to play the part if she wanted him to believe she was a vampire too. "You wanted to know why I am here... I was hunting foolish humans that like to come out in the Scorch for what some might claim as extra freedom despite the danger." She slowly moved towards him, "Little humans like you to be exact." She finished. Maybe if he fled she wouldn't have to waste a bow or arrow on him. If you are a human, you'll likely leave without me having to shoot. If you are a vampire, I'll fight for my bow and arrow and take fire.

Christina moved closer towards him, trying to force herself to believe that she was the cat and not a mouse. "You see, it's easier to blend in when I have an arrow to shoot at people. That is how I got you here." She finished, unaware that he knew she was bluffing. She stopped a few feet from the door. Your move.

"Then that's your problem to consider, not mine," he replied. After all, he hardly cared what this human thought of him. If she thought herself so important, it was none of his business. He tilted his head then, slightly amused. "I never asked for your reason for being here," he stated. After all, he hadn't. He'd simply stated the simple fact that she wouldn't have been here if she had nothing here to do. "Do you really think yourself that important?" he asked curiously, though raised a hand to wag a finger at her, as if chastising her.

He took a moment to consider her question; In some ways, she was right. After all, an arrow could be deadly - well, not to him, but it could potentially put him into hibernation if he didn't react quickly enough. "For someone who keeps their own cards so tightly to their chest, you sure are a curious one."

Ezra mocked an offended look, then gestured towards the space still left in the doorway. "I'm leaning towards the door, not taking up all the space," he commented, raising an eyebrow. "Or are you trying to call me fat? If so, I'll have to say that I'm deeply wounded." He put a hand to his chest, as if his heart was hurting and shook his head. "Let me just tell you that this gorgeous body didn't come for free," he added as his smirk returned. Then, Ezra raised his hand, "Don't put words into my mouth, darlin', I never once asked, nor do I really care why you're here." However, as the girl continued, Ezra found it incredibly hard to keep a straight face. Ah, she was playing that card, was she? How amusing.

"Mmmhm, I'm sure," he replied, still not moving from his location. Instead, he watched the girl, as if measuring her. "Actually, you didn't get me anywhere. In case you haven't noticed, I came in here after you and considering your reaction, you didn't expect me, nor hear me until I spoke," he said as he looked down at his hands, studying his nails. "And since you appeared, I haven't moved, thus proving that nothing you've done thus far has gone according to this little plan you just made up." He lifted his gaze, raising an eyebrow. "Now what?" he asked with a tilted head.

Christina rolled her eyes at him, it didn't matter if he was a human or a vampire, he was a guy.... that was good enough reason for her to want to shoot him at this point. Just as she hadn't given him details of proving how foolish she was for being here in the first place, he left himself as vague as ever. Him pointing out he never asked why she was here she sighed, trying to ignore speaking more of the subject. His question about how important she believed she was earned an eye roll, she couldn't ignore everything he was doing after all. Her question about why he didn't seem fearful to move, encouraged her next move because she couldn't tell if he was a foolish human too or a vampire. Strangely enough she hoped he wasn't a foolish human.

Christina had a hard time keeping a straight face when Ezra gave a mocked look about how he was supposedly blocking the door. It doesn't matter if you are a human or a vampire, there is no way in hell I'm going to squeeze by you when I know you might be up to no good, why else are you here in the first place if not to bug me or bring harm. Ezra stated how deeply wounded he was that she had called him fat, it was to late to take it back now but she did find his comment to be rather funny. She wasn't about to correct him on the subject though. "I believe you." She answered finally, not liking how his smirk had returned. She decided to play the vampire, Ezra had started to talk but she continued with her scheme instead.

It didn't surprise her that Ezra didn't at first believe her, since many vampires didn't have a bow or arrow when they came out to hunt. Thought he hadn't moved from his spot, she was somewhat glad, it gave her an excuse to be up close for once. "Don't you know?" She asked, "Luring humans is the new way to hunt them now, I knew you would be following me." She paused, "How'd I do on my surprised look?" She had ignored his comment, If he is a vampire, why is he letting me continue? She was within reach of him now, "Well, I could kill you. Or I could force myself out the door and leave you be. I haven't quite decided yet." If he is a vampire there is no way in hell, him following me here would leave me in one piece.

She had noted that he had allowed her to play her little game but hadn't given the slightly reaction to her being a vampire, either this guy didn't know fear or he was a vampire and knew she was lying. "I highly suggest that you keep your hands to yourself as to avoid encouraging." She added, glancing towards the door once before looking back towards him. If I was a vampire, I wouldn't have let him stand there so long. I personality think he is playing with me, there is no way in hell that a human would have let all of that slid without freaking out. Now that she was closer, she could see just how much trouble she was in. Christina reached for the arrow from her bag and held her bow, preparing to shoot him with it.

At that, Ezra let out a laugh. He had to give it to the girl; At least she was trying. Not that he believed her - he likely wouldn't have believed her even if he had been a human. After all, she was trying too hard and it was all barks with no bites. "You knew, did you?" he asked, nodding his head as if pondering. "A vampire who can't decide whether or not to kill the very same person they claim to have lured here," he said, pursing his lips. "You sound conflicted there, darlin'. Either that, our this plan of yours is filled with holes... Unless," he stopped, eyeing the girl. "Or you just made it up." Besides, had the girl wanted to kill him, she would have tried already.

She had guts - or maybe she just pretended that she had. Just maybe she was starting to realize just how much trouble she was getting herself into here. Threatening someone like this and playing coy wouldn't go off well with anyone, regardless of them being human or vampire.

"Or what?" he asked, his head tilting curiously. He gestured towards the bow then. "Fire it and let's see which of us are the quickest one, vampire girl." He was grinning now, almost egging the girl to make the first move. He needed an excuse to backhand some common sense into her. How she'd survived this long was beyond him, because she clearly wasn't the smartest girl out there - that much was certain. He raised his hands then, offering her a clear shot. "Come on then. Make good on those threats you spit out in a never ending flow."

Christina had no idea on how to act like a vampire, she had hoped he had believed her since he hadn't pointed out her bluff right away. When he had spoken she had figured out how much trouble she was in. No human in their right mind would egg me on. I can't risk him being a human just because I believe he might be a vampire, no, as he suggested I will be aiming for his heart and I won't be surprised when I miss. "Your one lousy human." She answered, firing at him, expecting him to move so that it wouldn't hit him in the heart where she had been aiming. Vampires.... they always think they have the winning hand just because I make a terrible hunter.... well I guess that is why I made better bait....

When Ezra moved she had ran out the door, not caring which direction he had gone. I'm not safe back near the hunters, if anything I just put a target on their head for leading a vampire straight to them. She had arrows but nothing to cut his head off with if she wanted to survive this little game that she so unwillingly started. There isn't a place I can run where I believe he wouldn't be willingly to follow me in. Now that she knew he was a vampire she couldn't help but wonder how far she would make it before he would stop her in her tracks, she did after all shoot a vampire of all people. I need more silver... my one and only chance is to go back to the hunters....

She heaved in a breath, running for her life. Is this how animals feel when I'm hunting them? I must admit I hate this feeling, but then again. I did sort of miss the thrill of being bait. I wonder if I'll manage to get away from him... If he got bored he might chose to leave me alone. She huffed, not believing such a thing to happen, he followed her once, the chance of him doing it again didn't go unnoticed.

Oh, no; he was a lousy human. What a terrible insult. Someone really needed to teach this girl a thing or two about wit, because she lacked it completely. Still, Ezra said nothing. He simply watched her - studied her for any and all reactions. He was very aware of the bow and arrow aimed at him and the moment she decided to fire, he would act.

And then she fired it.

In the moment of a heartbeat, Ezra stepped to the side, grabbing the arrow in midair, in the space where it would have come close to hitting his heart. He felt the girl move past him and he lazily turned his head, watching her run like a scared little mouse. A small huff passed through his lips and he looked at the arrow, breaking it in half before turning.

"Silly little human," he muttered under his breath, dropping the broken arrow pieces to the ground below him. He looked up at the sky, shaking his head a little before his hands went into his pockets. He could feel his inner beast, egging him on to chase the scared little mouse, but it wasn't worth the hassle. "See you around, bloodbag!" He called after her, his usual smirk returning to his lips. With that, he stepped down the stairs leading from the house and slowly made his way towards the tunnels that would lead him home.

Christina slowed down because she had to catch her breath, she looked back to see if Ezra was following her or not before looking back in front of her. Go back? I haven't even finished what I came out here to do yet. She couldn't decide on if she wanted to risk being out here any longer or if she wanted to return back home. I'm not safe in there or out here... A scared little animal would find a hole and hide in it, she was scared of being caught by him. If I'm going to get caught, it won't be inside of there. I came out here for a reason and I'm going to finish it. Most humans would have returned back anyway, but not her, she was more interested in staying out here just a little bit longer.

She wiped her forehead with the back of her hand, she hadn't realized she had been sweating. She reached her arm out to grab another arrow as she held it firmly between her fingers. You might be a hunter, but so am I. She wouldn't be going back to him, not if she could help it, but find something small to hunt. Christina headed away from the wall, the woods was the best place to go hunting for animals, but she wasn't willing to risk getting caught in a corner being in there. I don't get why he just let me go. Maybe I'm lucky and he wasn't interested in my blood. Or so she believed since he hadn't rushed right after her.

A bird fluttered down, most likely to grab a bug from the ground before taking off again. She crept slowly forward before releasing her grip, watching the arrow sore through the air as it pierced the bird, who happened to be in midair. The bird fall onto the ground, it was dead. She walked over and pulled her arrow out of the bird, tossing it on the ground. Finally, I can return back and forget about my run in with that vampire. Of course she would need to clean the animal up and cook it, but life was never said to be pretty. Of course all of that scene with Ezra from earlier made her even more hungry than she had felt earlier when she had first came to the Scorch.

Now that she had her catch, she felt like she could relax slightly. If Ezra was going to follow her, she believed she would have seen him by now. So it was more than likely he lost interest in her. And everybody wonders how I managed to survive so long with my reckless streak. The answer, they grow bored of me. Maybe the thoughts had come to soon, she lost interest in being observant around herself to see if Ezra was nearby or not.
